HORSE GROOMING
To reduce the sweat on your horse before grooming, wind some twine round your hand and use it as a scraper. It can be very effective and allows you to get all over your horse's body.
Frequently pick stones and debris out of your horse's feet and after every piece of exercise as his feet can quickly become infected if not checked and cleaned regularly.
If grooming your horse in cold weather, keep a rug on at least the part of his body not being groomed, at all times, especially if he has been clipped recently.
To remove stubborn grease from your horse's body, wipe it with a towel that has a mixture of hot water and methylated spirits on it. Work in circles and rinse the towel out frequently.
Using two sponges to clean your horse of different colours, one for the face and one for elsewhere, is a good idea.
Avoid using brushes and rubber curry combs roughly and never use them in any sensitive areas of your horse's body or on the tail. Also let mud dry on your horse before trying to remove it, and in some areas it is most effectively removed by hand.
