To further whiten a horse's white socks for a show, talcum powder or shoe whitener are both highly effective.

If loud noises such as loudspeakers are going to affect your horse at the show, consider putting a little cotton wool in its ears but make sure it will not slip down into the ear.

Hairs on your clothes during a show can be removed by wrapping sellotape, sticky side outwards, around your hand and brushing it against your clothes. An alternative is to wet a rubber glove and brush your clothes with it.

You can slicken up your riding hat by taking it into the bathroom with you when you have a shower. The steam will enhance the colour.

If attending a show, it is highly advisable to make a list of everything you will need on the day and tick it off as it goes onto your transport to avoid errors.
