HORSE TAIL
Brushing your horse's tail through with baby oil on a soft brush, when the tail is clean, will keep it in very good condition and help prevent the hair losing its colour. Fabric conditioner also helps keep the tail untangled.
It is often overlooked that a horse naturally often carries its tail slightly higher than the resting position when moving, so if trimming it ask someone to put an arm underneath it so that you can see the effect as you trim the tail.
Pulling hairs from a horse's tail can be painful. It is a good idea to ask someone to hold the horse inside the stable and drape the tail over the lower half of the stable door to avoid being kicked. Only pull a very few hairs in each session and keep the sessions short.
The easiest and quickest way to dry your horse's tail after washing it is to hold the tail bone and spin the tail around.
Try always to use your hands to untangle tail hair, to avoid breaking hairs off and making the tail more unsightly. If a brush is necessary, only use it lightly and immediately after washing.
