Saddle Soap
SADDLE SOAP
When rubbing saddle soap into leather after washing the leather of a harness, do not just rub it over any dirt but make sure the surface is clean first. Otherwise, it will not benefit the leather and can also damage your horse's skin.
Used saddle soap tins make excellent round pegs to maintain the shape of the headpiece and keep your horse's bridle tidy. Simply nail the saddle soap tin to the wall.
Do not let saddle soap become too wet. If it lathers up too much, it is damaging rather than maintaining the tack you are trying to clean.
Old small pieces of saddle soap can be melted down, ideally in milk, and combined to get as much use out of it as possible. When melted together, the larger piece of soap can be kept in a fridge to make it last even longer.
Don't use saddle soap in the seat of the saddle as it will stain your clothes.
